So you want to marry a firefighter..

Wednesday, August 1, 2007, 08:52 AM EST [General]

    this is so true...

SO YOU WANT TO MARRY A FIREFIGHTER?

For any woman who thinks she wants to marry a firefighter, keep this in mind..... "Writen By A Firefighters Wife" 1. He'll never be home. Out of the 168 hours that are in a week, my husband was home exactly 55 of them. That means more than half of his time is spent AT WORK. 2. Be prepared to put your own aspirations on hold, especially if he's not "picked up" yet by a dept. There realistically won't be time for your goals. 3. Having kids with a firefighter is like being a single mom. It'll be you and the kids 99% of the time. And all that means. But you'll at least be able to afford to be a stay at home mom. And if you don't want to be? Too bad. Good luck trying to juggle his schedule and yours, not to mention the day care bills, and never seeing each other; it's easier to stay home. 4. At least he'll come home for some good lovin before he heads back off to work, so you won't be lacking in that dept! :) But don't expect to sleep on nights he's home. Oh yeah, and he's going to be so tired there WON'T be any talking afterwards, just the sweet sound of his snoring to keep you company. 5. Firefighters have a shorter life expectancy. Chemical fires. Enough said. 6. You will become a member of the "family" (dept family, that is). This is good! But expect that their pranks may spill over to your own property at times.... 7. Ask him to tell you the "neighbor daddy" joke. Expect for someone from his dept to drop off a photo of him to remember him by ( because he will be gone that much.) 8. It's not all bad. There will always be someone to fix for free whatever you need fixed. 9. Firemen are cocky, chauvanistic asses. It's just a fact. But they are also kindhearted, good with kids, and would be there for you in a second if you needed them to be. 10. And lastly. You better love him. REALLY love him and not just what he does. Because he's going to put work first, and so are you. A life with one of these guys is tough! It's a lot of hard work on YOUR part. It takes a tough woman, one who can manage a house and kids by herself for days or weeks on end. But if you've got it, then it'll be the most rewarding experience. You married to someone you can be proud of. But don't expect any glory for all your hard work, the only one who is going to notice may be your husband. And that's enough for me!
